The Bulldogs took the lead in the AAC after their win at Union on Tuesday, but they kept the top spot on Saturday after defeating the Knights of St. Andrews, 99-90.
Tennessee Wesleyan showed why they were in the top spot in the first half, going on a 13-2 run to start the game. They extended that lead to 39-22 with 6:47 left in the half, and then had their largest lead of the half at 18, 56-38 when the buzzer sounded.
The Bulldogs continued to pull away to as much as 21 with 14:35 left in the game, before the Knights began to try and chip away at the lead. The Knights outscored the Bulldogs 20-5 over the next five minutes to pull within 5. Tennessee Wesleyan pulled away to 13, 87-74, and then the Knights tried to rally again coming within 4 with 3:46 remaining. Getting within four, the Knights began to foul, but the Bulldogs were 8-13 from the free throw line in the last minutes to win 99-90.
Trey Suttles led the Bulldogs with 28 points and six rebounds. Leland Robinson was right behind him with 26 points and nine rebounds. Also scoring in double digits was Devante Jenkins with 13 and Tre Tiller with 12 points.
The Bulldogs will travel to Bluefield on Wednesday to play at 7:30 pm, and return home on Saturday to face Truett- McConnell at 4:00 pm.
