Coach Mike Poe earned his first win in nine road trips to Bluefield last night with a 75-67 win over the Rams. With the win, the Bulldogs are 8-1 in the conference, and 14-1 overall. TWC and Union are in the top spots of the AAC with Bryan in 3rd at 5-3.
Leland Robinson tied the game at seven and Tre Tiller followed with a 3-pointer. Trey Suttles had six points and Jordan Hall a "3," helping the Bulldogs open a 26-14 advantage in the first half. Tennessee Wesleyan would widen the intermission gap to 16, 50-34.
Bluefield, however, slowly crept back into the game and with 4:53 remaining, had climbed within three, 64-61. Justin Simmons then nailed a 3-pointer, the defense got a stop and Charles White drained a trey, his only bucket of the night, pushing the lead back to nine at the 3:19 mark.
The Rams again sliced the deficit to three, but Jenkins and Simmons hit 5-of-6 free throws in the final 32 seconds to seal the win.
Suttles, last week's AAC Player of the Week, paced the TWC offense with 34 points and collected eight rebounds. Robinson and Jenkins added 9 points each, while Hall and Simmons each had 8. White recorded a team-high 10 rebounds.
The Bulldogs will host Truett McConnell on Saturday at 4:00 pm in James L Robb Gymnasium.
