The Bulldogs traveled to Bryan on Saturday where they squeaked by the Lions winning 89-86. Tennessee Wesleyan is now 19-1 overall and 17-1 in the AAC.
The Bulldogs pushed themselves to an early lead, 15-11, but Bryan countered with an 8-0 run to regain the lead 19-15. Bryan held the lead until 1:44 was left until halftime, when Tennessee Wesleyan sank a long-range shot to make it 37-35. The Bulldogs expanded their lead to five points with a last-second three-pointer before halftime, making it 40-35 at the break.
Seven minutes into the second half Bryan rallied for an 8-0 run, giving the Lions a 60-56 lead. The lead was short-lived as Tennessee Wesleyan battled their way back midway through the second half for the eighth tie-point of the game, 62-62. The Bulldogs recaptured the lead and slowly created space between the Lions, going up 82-72 at the 4:23 mark. The Lions team made a valiant effort on a comeback, finding themselves down 86-76 with 3:22 left in the game. Over the next three minutes, Bryan allowed Tennessee Wesleyan only three points while they clawed away for ten points. After Bryan was unable to capitalize on the last few possessions, the 17th ranked Bulldogs escaped with an 89-86 AAC victory.
Leland Robinson led the Bulldogs with 29 points, 5 rebounds, and 5 assists. However, it was Devante Jenkins day, scoring 21 points, to put him over the 1000th career point mark. After the buzzer, Jenkins sits with 1,008 career points. Jenkins pulled down 11 rebounds and had 4 steals. Also scoring in double digits was Trey Suttles wtih 16 points, and Tre Tiller with 10 points. Charles white had ten assists to help the Bulldogs get the win.
The Bulldogs host Vorhees tonight at 6:00 pm and then Point on Wednesday at 7:30 pm. Jenkins will be honored on Wednesday night before the game for scoring his 1,000 the career point.
