The Bulldogs hosted NAIA Division I Voorhees College on Monday for what turned out to be TWC's 18 win in a row. Tennessee Wesleyan defeated Voorhees 96-88.
Charles White drained a "3" and Tre Tiller and Trey Suttles had buckets as the 'Dogs jumped in front, 7-0. Voorhees rebounded and, with less than five minutes remaining in the half, had built seven-point advantage, 35-28. Justin Simmons came off the bench to nail back-to-back 3-pointers, putting the Bulldogs back on track. Suttles added a trey and White scored in the final seconds to bring Wesleyan back within one, 42-41 at the half.
The Bulldogs slipped in front, 48-47, on a basket by Suttles, followed by a White triple and TWC would not trail again. The decisive run was fueled by four points each from Robinson and Ikeem Bergeron and capped by Matt Brown's trey, widening the gap to 11, 66-55. Tennessee Wesleyan's biggest lead, 85-64, came on a shot from behind the arc by Robinson with 4:48 to play. Voorhees made its late run, inching within six, but there were only 10 seconds left on the clock.
White led the Bulldogs in points, rebounds, assists and steals with 21, seven, six and four, respectively. Robinson collected 19 points, seven rebounds; Suttles 18 points and Bergeron 10 points.
Tennessee Wesleyan shot 56 percent from the field, including 55 percent (12 of 22) from 3-point range.
The Bulldogs will host Point University on Wednesday at 7:30 pm.
