The Bulldogs hosted the Skyhawks of Point who came into the contest at 6-6 in the conference, while Tennessee Wesleyan was 12-1. TWC got a 90-79 win to remain on top of the AAC, while Point sits in 5th place.
Before the game, Devante Jenkins was honored for scoring his 1,000th career point at Bryan last Saturday. Jenkins ended the game at Bryan with 1,008 points and currently has 1, 027 for his career.
The teams traded baskets through the first eight minutes before Tennessee Wesleyan's pressing defense tightened its grip. The game was knotted at 16 on a basket by Trey Suttles before the Bulldogs went on a 23-6 run to open a 17-point gap. Leland Robinson had six straight points; Justin Simmons added four and Charles White, Ikeem Bergeron and Matt Brown had triples, while Tre Tiller and Devante Jenkins added buckets to fuel the run and lead, 39-22. Point, however, regrouped and climbed back within seven at the intermission, 47-40.
The Skyhawks would never catch up, but also didn't go away. The Bulldogs widened the gap to 14 on a pair of Tiller free throws, but Point inched back within eight before Tennessee Wesleyan put the game away.
Robinson paced five Bulldogs in double figures with 25 points. Tiller netted 16 points; Suttles 11, six rebounds and Jenkins 10 points, seven rebounds and Brown 10 points.
TWC converted 19-of-32 and Point 11-of-15.
The Bulldogs are off this weekend and return to action on Monday night at Milligan College at 7:30 pm.
