Bulldog baseball traveled to Cumberland University on Tuesday for a single nine inning game.
Tennessee Wesleyan spotted Cumberland University a 4-2 lead after five innings, but scored the game's final three runs as Ryan Hartman tossed four innings of scoreless relief to squeeze out a 5-4.
Starter Danny Guido gave up a run; Chris Washington two runs and Diego Ibarra a run as Cumberland went in front, 4-2, after five innings. Tennessee Wesleyan's two runs came in the third on hits by Omar Gomez and Pedro Barrios.
Two walks and singles from Alfred Cruz and Gomez tied the game at four in the sixth. A walk, hit-batsman and throwing error plated the winning run for Wesleyan in the seventh. Hartman picked up the win, allowing just two hits and striking out nine over the final four frames.
Wesleyan was out-hit, 11-7, with two hits from Gomez and one each from Barrios, Wardy Polanco, Luis Estevez, Cody Stroud and Cruz. The Bulldogs also received seven walks, while surrendering just one to Cumberland.
Wesleyan is scheduled to play in Atlanta at Lakeshore Park against Goshen (Indiana) on Thursday. The return home for a doubleheader against St. Xavier (Ohio) on Saturday at noon and a twinbill at 12:30 p.m. on Sunday against nationally-ranked (No. 17) University of Northwestern Ohio.
