NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Wesleyan's Hunter Simpson garnered Women's Basketball Player of the Week accolades from the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on Tuesday, registering 17.3 points, 7.7 rebounds and 4.0 assists in three victories to earn MVP honors at the Appalachian Athletic Conference Championships.
The 5-foot-8 freshman posted 24 points, nine boards and five assists in a 61-58 win over St. Andrews University, hitting 6-of-14 shots and connecting on 12-for-18 at the foul line in the quarterfinals of the tournament, which is played annually in Kingsport, Tenn.
The Madisonville, Tenn., native recorded 18 points, seven caroms and three assists in the semifinals against 25th-ranked Bryan College and posted 10 points, seven rebounds and four assists in the finals victory over Montreat College. It marked the second straight conference tournament title for the Bulldogs, who advance to the NAIA Division II Championships on March 9-15 in Sioux City, Iowa.
