2009 Lady Bulldogs
The Tennessee Wesleyan Lady Bulldog Soccer team is ready for the Appalachian Athletic Conference season, and the remainder of their challenging schedule.  "We have a solid group returning as well as some excellent additions to our squad." says Coach Clarke.  The Lady Bulldogs come off a 9-10 season finishing 4th in conference in the 08-09 season.  "Last year we didn't quite reach the goals we hoped for, but we came close.  This season I feel confident we have added the type of players that can help us reach those goals."
The following comments are from Coach Clarke.  We have some new young players (Britten Fandrich, Fr. and Daelyn Swafford, Fr.) that are playing solid up front and working hard in front of the goal, I hope to see them shoot when they have the opportunity and continue working hard behind the ball. We also have attacking potential with some returning players in Courtney Strickland, So., Helen Collins, Jr., Spencer Creekmore, So.,  Samantha Sexton, Sr., and Irina Tharin, Sr.  We have plenty of midfield options and will look to move players through that position throughout games to ensure we don't lack pace in the midfield.  We bring back Helen Collins who tends to be a very fit, athletic, and a powerful force through the middle and in the attacking half.  Returners Irina Tharin, Tina Puricelli, Jr., Courtney Strickland, Sam Sexton, newcomer Kelly Stanton, Fr. and returner Jordan Hendrix, So. have also been showing talent through the center of the field.  They all are working hard trying to win a spot as a starter and have been playing the ball remarkably well, a few of them have been playing wide also (Sexton, Strickland) and are doing very well at it.  We still need to work harder on defense throughout our midfield as we tend to get beat from time to time there.

Out wide we have returners Katie Smith, Sr., Marissa Traer, SO., newcomers Hollie Reagan, So. and Becca Kent, Fr. all working very hard.  We have options with formation and can push players forward on either side.  We have added a little pace out wide so I look foward to seeing what comes from that during the season.

Returning on defense we have Megan Snellgrose, Jr., Laura Swallows, Jr., Savannah Schrick, Sr.  We have two transfer students in these roles that have played and trained at the college level and add a little more maturity to our already returning back line - Deanna Dawson, So. (Univ of WI - Parkside) and Cassie Romeo, Jr. (Western Nevada CC).  I'm excited to see both of them play alongside our returners and with some of the fresh talent coming in on defense too.  We add Kayla Russel, Fr., Jenna Klages, Fr., and Kathleen Kent, Fr.  to our stash of defensive players.  Of them a couple will certainly look to be playing a lot during the season.

Protecting our goal mouth we have four options in returning starters Chealsey Baxter, Jr. and Tiffani Martin, Sr., as well as 08 redshirt Jordan Moss, Jr. and newcomer Blair Kent, Fr.  All four players have been working hard in preseason and fighting for one spot, I don't expect the choice in keeper this season to be an easy one.

We have more depth than we have had in the past so naming an 11 man sqaud is going to be tough.  The conference has significantly changed with strong teams leaving and strong teams entering.  It will be an interesting season but one I am ready for and the girls are very ready for.  Preseason has been long, hot, and tiring, but they are working hard and I am positive it will pay off once we get rolling."
