NASHVILLE, Tenn. – Tennessee Wesleyan's Paolo Montezuma was named the Baseball Player of the Week by the Tennessee Sports Writers Association on Tuesday for their performances for April 11-17.
Montezuma batted .647 (11-for-17) with three doubles, one home run, nine RBIs and six runs scored in four games for the sixth-ranked Bulldogs. The Venezuela native started the week with a 3-for-6 effort with one RBI and two runs scored at Lindsey Wilson.
In the three-game conference series against Truett-McConnell, the junior catcher was 4-for-5 with two doubles, three RBIs and three runs scored in the opener. He added two hits with a three-run homer and two runs scored in the second game against the Bears and went 2-for-3 with a double and two RBIs in the final contest.
Montezuma is batting .419 with six doubles, five home runs, 27 RBIs and 17 runs scored in 27 contests this season. Wesleyan is 33-9 overall and 19-2 in the Appalachian Athletic Conference, holding a five-game lead with six contests remaining in the league schedule.
