(Bracket) The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) has announced the official seeds and bracket for the 2016 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series, hosted by Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). The 60th annual event takes place May 27 – June 3 at Harris Field in Lewiston, Idaho, for the 17th-consecutive season and 25th time overall.
The World Series is a 10-team, double-elimination tournament with the winner being crowned either June 2 or June 3, depending on if the eventual national champion drops one of its earlier round games. For ticket information, click here.
Game one pits No. 7 Sterling (Kan.) against No. 10 Point (Ga.) on May 27 at 9 a.m. PDT. The winner of that game will face No. 2 Tennessee Wesleyan at 3 p.m. on May 28.
No. 8 Lindsey Wilson (Ky.) will battle No. 9 The Master's (Calif.) at 12 p.m. in the second game of the day, while No. 3 Bellevue (Neb.) and No. 6 Auburn Montgomery (Ala.) square off at 3 p.m. in game three. Top-seeded Faulkner (Ala.) plays the winner of Lindsey Wilson-The Master's at 6:30 p.m. on May 23
The nightcap features No. 4 Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) and No. 5 Science & Arts (Okla.) following the event's opening ceremonies at 7 p.m.
Faulkner, Lewis-Clark State and Lindsey Wilson also participated in the 2015 event.
Lewis-Clark State is making its NAIA record 35th World Series appearance. The defending national champions also own the NAIA record for wins (133) and national championships (17). Bellevue (1995), Tennessee Wesleyan (2012) and Faulkner (2013) are the other qualifiers with at least one banner.
Outside of Lewis-Clark State, Bellevue boasts the most appearances in the World Series with 13. The Bruins most recent appearance came in 2008.
Point and Science & Arts are each making its first-ever appearance at the World Series. The Skyhawks made history in the Savannah Bracket, as they became the first No. 5 seed to win an Opening Round title since the inception of the format in 2009. Science & Arts, which outscored its Opening Round opponents, 45-3, swept its way through the Hutchinson Bracket.
Stretch Internet, the NAIA's official video-streaming company, will be broadcasting the first 15 games of the 2016 Avista-NAIA Baseball World Series. Day passes can be purchased for $9.95, while an all-World Series ticket is available for $29.95. Games played June 1 – 3 are going to be delivered on ESPN3.
