Tennessee Wesleyan hosted Reinhardt College for a big conference rivalry Wednesday afternoon. Both Teams have had very successful seasons thus far and are battling for positions in the top 25 rankings.
The first half consisted of an evenly matched midfield battle and an occasional attack but neither team had much success putting one in the net. TWU had a slight advantage in the shot count leading the Eagles 7 to 4.
The second half began with both teams determined to get on the score board first. Wesleyan had a few great surges and just missed a few chances that were either saved off the line or squeaked just wide of the goal. The Reinhardt defense scrambled to keep the game tied as the
Bulldogs held the Eagles to only 3 shots in the second half.
The game ended 0-0 sending the Bulldogs into their 5th overtime of the year.
A few minutes into the first overtime goal keeper, Nick Croucher, saved a screaming shot that was headed towards the bottom corner of the Bulldogs goal. Just moments after, Ben Timms drove the ball down the right wing and pulled the ball back to the awaiting Jake McBrayer who took a touch, drew two defenders and then feathered a pass to Johnny LeQuesene who buried his shot. Golden Goal; Bulldogs Win 1-0.
Wesleyan will celebrate senior day and host Bluefield College on Sat. October 15 @ 2:30 PM.
