#4 Lady Bulldogs hosted #5 St Andrews in the quarterfinal round of the AAC Conference tournament. In the previous matchup of the teams during the regular season, it ended in a 1-1 tie, which meant this game would prove to be an exciting one.
There was no score at halftime, with the Lady Bulldogs leading shots on goal 5-1. Both teams came out at halftime anxious to get on the board. In the 73rd minute, Maddie Young passed the ball up the field to Freshman Jessica Young, who scored for the Lady Bulldogs. St. Andrews answered just four minutes later to tie the game 1-1.
The game ended in a 1-1 tie which forced two periods of overtime. After 20 minutes of play and still no goals, the two teams went to penalty kicks to determine who would move on in the tournament.
The Lady Bulldogs and the Knights traded goals through the first five, but it was the 6th player that made the difference. TWU made theirs, but then McKenna Loges made a diving stop to give the Lady Bulldogs the win. Kicking for TWU in order was: Nicole Broderick, Holly Vetter, Siobhan Patterson, Amy Panayi, Savannah Young, and Livia Walker.
In an interesting turn of events on Saturday, the Lady Bulldogs expected to be traveling to play in the semifinal round of the tournament, but all three top teams were defeated in the quarterfinal round, leaving TWU as the highest team left. So the Lady Bulldogs will host the semifinal and final round of the tournament on Thursday and Friday. The Lady Bulldogs will play #9 Truett McConnell on Thursday at 11:30 am. #6 Union and #7 Bryan will play at 2:00 pm Thursday. The winners of those games will play in the finals on Friday at 2:00 pm.
