TWU hosted Truett McConnell on Saturday in their first home AAC Matchup. The Lady Bulldogs won 63-55 over the Bears.
Tennessee Wesleyan got a trio of treys from Walkup and one each from Lindsey Macon and Kelsey Young to sprint out to a 19-4 advantage after just four minutes of play. TWU, however, was plagued by four turnovers and four missed free throws and didn't score again until a "3" by Gina Dick two minutes into the second quarter. The Bears climbed back within five at the half, 43-38.
Savannah Atkins had six points in the third, but Truett continued to inch back within one, 46-45. Tennessee Wesleyan fell behind, 55-54, before Walkup buried her second 3-pointer of the period and the defense blanked the Bears over the final five minutes of play as Hunter Simpson and Dick made free throws.
Madison Walkup netted 21 points, collected six rebounds and had two steals. Simpson had 10 points, nine boards, three steals; Dick 11 points, nine rebounds and Macon 6 points, nine assists.
In Walkup's effort to score 21 points on Saturday, she broke another record this season. Previously she broke the record for the most 3's made in a single game with 9. On Saturday, she broke the record for the most attempted three's in a game, going 7 for 20. The record was previously set by Lindsey Jackson in 2009-2010 at 14.
