The Lady Bulldogs made a comeback to defeat Bluefield College 70-61 in overtime on Wednesday night.
Tennessee Wesleyan trailed from the beginning with Bluefield hitting a three to start the game. Bluefield was up 14-8 halfway through the first quarter before the drought hit for both teams with no one scoring again until 46 seconds remained in the quarter. Bluefield hit a three and then Hunter Simpson put in a shot to end the quarter to end the quarter with Bluefield leading, 17-10.
The second quarter started off slow with Hunter Simpson scoring 30 seconds into the period and then nothing else for other team until Madison Walkup hit a three to make it 17-15 Bluefield at the 7 minute mark. At the half, the Lady Bulldogs trailed by seven, 29-22.
With Kenzie Conn scoring eight points and Summer Morris a trey, the Lady Bulldogs cut the gap to three, 43-40, going to the final period. Savannah Atkins scored five points, including a triple, Tennessee Wesleyan took its first lead at 48-47. A field goal by Gina Dick widened the gap to four, 56-52, before the Lady Rams closed the game on a 6-2 run, sending the game to overtime knotted at 58.
Tennessee Wesleyan held Bluefield scoreless for more than two minutes, while Simpson had a pair of baskets and free throw, along with a two free throws from Madison Walkup to build a seven-point margin, 65-58. Bluefield was back within four when Atkins buried a "3" to seal the win.
Savannah Atkins paced the offense with 14 points. Morris tallied 13; Simpson 12 with 11 rebounds and Conn 10. Walkup also collected 11 boards and had 7 points.
Tennnessee Wesleyan travels to Truett McConnell University on Saturday to play at 2:00 pm.
