ATHENS, Tn. – Tennessee Wesleyan University volleyball recorded their first home win of the season Thursday in a victory over Fisk University. The Lady Bulldogs defeated Fisk 3-1 in four sets (25-16, 25-20, 19-25, 27-25).
Play in the first set was back-and-forth resulting in a tie at 13- all. The Lady bulldogs finally were able to pull away after a 12-1 stretch that secured a 25-14 win.
Although TWU never trailed in the second set, Fisk lingered closely throughout the contest, going on a 5-1 run late in the set. Despite Fisk's efforts, the Lady Bulldogs took their second win of the match 25-20.
Fisk never trailed in the third set. After an early 6-2 surge by the Fisk Bulldogs, Coach Ashley Harris called a timeout to rally her squad. Unfortunately, the Lady Bulldogs were unsuccessful, dropping the set 19-25.
The final set of the contest featured six ties. The Lady Bulldogs took their first lead of the set at 16-15, but Fisk quickly reclaimed the lead just two points after. The hard-fought battle was finally decided after TWU surged from a three-point deficit to earn the set win 27-25 and match victory 3-1.
The Lady Bulldogs will be back in action this weekend as they travel to Laurinburg, North Carolina, to take on conference rival St. Andrews University. TWU will face the Knights on Saturday at 11 a.m.
