DECATUR,Tn.-Lindsay Arndts is joining her sister Megan by signing with TWC to play softball. Arndts had scholarship offers from Lee, Union and Bryan in addition to TWC, but she said Wesleyan had everything she was looking for in a college.
"I just wanted to stay close to my family so they could see me play," Arndts said. "I like the atmosphere at TWC and I like Coach (Toby) Brooks. It's close to home and I just thought it was the best fit for me."
with 16 RBIs for Meigs County last year, collecting 35 hits in 29 games while scoring 27 runs. She played shortstop and outfield for the Lady Tigers and also has experience pitching.Brooks said Arndts will likely play outfield for the Lady Bulldogs. Brooks said he likes her competitiveness and her versatility.
"She has a quick first step and she knows the game," Brooks said. "She will likely start out in the outfield. I think that suits her skills the best, although we may take a look at her in the infield as well. The first thing I noticed about her was that she is a competitive player and she's versatile. She can play a lot of positions."
Brooks added Arndts may have a chance to play early.
"We have one outfielder graduating and three others that are pretty young," Brooks said. "So we have some depth at that position, but I think she can push for playing time. The main thing she will have to get used to is the speed of the game. She has played in a competitive high school team and gotten good coaching and she was on a competitive travel team, but everything happens a little faster in college. I think she will adapt pretty quickly."
Although the two won't play together because Megan is a senior and Arndts still has one more year of high school, Arndts said her sister being at TWC was a factor in her decision since Megan has enjoyed her time with the Lady Bulldogs. Brooks said Arndts' sister being on the team is a plus for him as well. "We already know the family and we know we are getting a good player and a good kid," Brooks said. "That was a positive for us because we already have an idea of what we are getting."
Meigs Coach Jeff Davis is happy Arndts will have a chance to play at the college level.
"I'm proud of her," Davis said. "She's an excellent student and an excellent player. I think she will do really well there."
Arndts currently has a 3.97 GPA, which is good enough to rank her No. 8 in her class. She is plans to be a dental hygienist. Arndts is the daughter of Tracy and Craig Arndts.
