The Tennessee Wesleyan Women's Soccer Team continues to sign players for the 2010 season with the recent signings of Shelbie Whitemire, Lainie Borris, and Lindsey Schofield.
Whitmire, a defender from Cleveland, TN comes to TWC after a high school career at Bradley Central HS where she started on defense and some midfield throughout her years there. She also played competitive soccer both indoor and outdoor with local Cleveland and Athens teams. "Shelbie is a strong and physical defender and I have seen her play many times. She won't back down and is determined to win balls and prevent attackers getting opportunities to shoot," says Coach Clarke, "We look forward to having her strength on defense."
Borris, a local Athens player from McMinn County HS, has played a midfield role most of her playing career. She played competitively most recently for McMinn United FC. "Lainie is a tall, athletic player that has a lot of talent and potential. I have seen her at the midfield role, both wide and centrally and am impressed with her decision making on the ball," says Coach Clarke, "She will work hard and play simple, and help our attacking game with possession and passing."
Schofield comes to TWC from a great career her senior year at Gaitlinburg-Pittman HS, and Sevierville HS prior years. She played competitive soccer with Blount United Soccer Club and is primarily an attacking player, playing both central mid, wide mid, and some forward. Coach Clarke made the comments, "Lindsey is fast, skilled, and has a great work ethic. She is passionate about TWC, verbally committing on her recruiting visit to us, so we are excited to have her. She is going to give us pace in attack as well as pace through the middle of the field. She moves well off the ball and makes good decisions with the ball at her feet. I am excited she chose TWC."
The Lady Bulldog's currently have 4 other verbal committments pending college acceptance, and are looking to retain the majority of their returning squad. "We want to improve on last season and really set a tone this coming season for the program and team," says Clarke, "We need to work harder to win games and not accept defeat as an option. There's a lot of talent on this team with returners and recruits, and we are still a long way from season so I am really looking forward to the 2010 year."
