This year's AAC tournament was being held at the higher seed's location, which meant the TWC Bulldogs had travel to UVA-Wise for their first match-up. UVA-Wise took an early 5-0 lead with a 3-point by Travis Berry and then a layup by Kevin Perry in the first minute of the game. The Bulldogs spent the next 13 minutes trying to catch up. The Bulldogs tied the game for the first time at 6:54 with two free throw by Clarence Threat. With back and forth field goals and free throw shots by both teams the halftime score was tied 46-46.
The Bulldogs came out of the locker room scoring the first two points and taking the lead but UVA-Wise countered with a 3 point shot. The Bulldogs were able to keep UVA-Wise within reach with no more than an 8 point lead and even taking the lead a couple of times. However, the Cavaliers proved to be too much for the Bulldogs winning the game 99-88.
Sean Bridges led all scorers with 21 points for the Bulldogs. Matt Harper contributed 18 points, while Clarence Threat had 12 and Quincy Scates had 11 points. Matt Towry pulled down 7 rebounds.
