On Wednesday afternoon the Flames of Lee University got burned by the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs. The Bulldogs (8-3) took an early lead and were able to hold onto it for the 9-8 victory over Lee University (10-3). Matt McCracken went the first five innings for Wesleyan, allowing singles runs in the third and fourth innings. The junior lefthander surrendered just three hits, struck out six and walked two.

The Bulldogs grabbed a 2-0 lead in the first. Max Loveland walked then stole second and third, scoring on a sacrifice fly. Three walks and a single from Rafael Carlott plated the second run. Loveland's infield single, an error and Brad Pippa's double made it 3-0 in the second. The Flames countered with a run in the top of the third, but as would be their pattern throughout the game, the Bulldogs answered right back with two more. With a walk and Kurtis Bramlett's double, Wesleyan scored to go up 5-1. Cody Gaskill's solo home run in the fourth made it 6-2.

Jason Crowell relieved McCracken to start the sixth and surrendered an unearned on two hits. The Bulldogs answered with two runs after two were out when Johnny Smith singled, Gaskill walked and Pippa laced a two-run double. Lee cut the deficit to 8-4 with another run in the seventh off Crowell and reliever Daniel Wood. Wesleyan's last score came in the seventh when McElroy reached on an error, Bramlett singled, David Lindsay bunted the runners up and Ryan Santos' sacrifice fly got the run home. After a scoreless seventh from Wood, Troy Graybill started the eighth and got only two outs while Lee scored four times to climb within one at 9-8. With runners at first and second, Ferguson came on to get the final out on strikes. In the ninth, Loveland gave up one hit, but got a groundout and struck out two to preserve the win.

Pippa had two hits with three RBIs; Gaskill a home run and two RBIs and Bramlett two hits with an RBI.

Lee (10-3) out-hit the Bulldogs 11-8, but Wesleyan took advantage of seven walks from five Flames pitchers.

McCracken (1-0) got the win and Loveland earned his second save of the season.
