The Bulldogs avoided the rain to play against Judson University on Wednesday and Thursday. The Bulldogs were defeated on Wednesday 14-10 but came back on Thursday to win 13-11. The Bulldogs overall record is now 16-5.
On Wednesday, it was feast or famine for Wesleyan starter Matt Brennan. Although he retired the side in order four times in his six innings, the righthander gave up a leadoff home run among two runs in the first inning and was touched for three runs on five hits in the fifth. Trailing 2-0 in the third, Wesleyan took the lead on one swing of the bat when Max Loveland followed hits from David Lindsey and Kurtis Bramlett with a three-run homer. With two outs, Ryan Santos homered, Brad Pippa singled and scored on Rafael Carlot's double to put TWC on top 5-2. Loveland then hit his second home run in the fourth for a 6-2 advantage. After the Eagles cut the deficit to 6-5, Wesleyan answered with a four-run sixth. Singles from Lindsey, Bramlett, Johnny Smith, Cody Gaskill, Santos and Pippa did the damage. Drew Housewright relieved Brennan to start the seventh and didn't retire any of the five batters he faced. Jason Ferguson surrendered one hit in relief of Housewright as Judson knotted the score at 10.
Justin Crowell started the 8th, but allowed a leadoff single, followed by a home run to put Judson in front 12-10. Wesleyan loaded the bases in the bottom of the inning on a walk and singles from Santos and Pippa, but did not score. A pair of doubles and an error led to Judson's final two runs in the ninth. Brennan went six innings, allowing five runs on seven hits while striking out two, walking two and hitting one batter. Housewright surrendered five runs on three hits, walked one and hit one. Ferguson gave up one hit and struck out one. Crowell gave up four runs on four hits with one strikeout and one walk in 1 2/3 innings before Ronnie Phelps got the final out.
Coach Berry was ejected by the home plate umpire after a called strike to end the bottom of the seventh. The Bulldogs came out swinging in the bottom of the eighth and came away with four runs on four hits to take a 13-11 lead. Smith opened the inning with a single and scored on another Gaskill home run, his third of the game and fifth of the season, and the game was again tied at 11-11. Santos then singled and Brad Pippa hit his fourth home run of the season to put the Bulldogs on top, 13-11.
Loveland pitched the final inning, setting down the Eagles in order and striking out the last two batters. Daniel Wood started for the Bulldogs, giving up five runs on six hits in four innings of work. Matt McCracken and Ronald Phelps each pitched one inning with McCracken giving up one run and Phelps three runs. Jason Ferguson worked the seventh and eighth innings, allowing two runs on four hits before Loveland pitched a scoreless ninth.
It was a big day for many of Wesleyan's hitters as the Bulldogs finished with 15 hits, including four from Ryan Santos and two each from Jonathon Smith, Brad Pippa and C.J. McElroy. One of Pippa's hits was also a home run to go along with Cody Gaskill's three homers and 8 RBIs. Eight of Wesleyan's nine starters had at least one hit with Carlot not getting a hit but walking twice. The Bulldogs finished with 15 hits.
