The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Lookout Mountain to play in AAC action against Covenant College on Tuesday, March 16th. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Scots of Covenant, 1-0 and 9-6 in the double header series. The Lady Bulldogs record increases to 3-11.
In the first game, both teams went scoreless for seven innings. The Lady Bulldogs scored one run in the top of the eighth after Rachel Morretto grounded out to the pitcher's mound to advance Sunni Jackson to third and then a single by Megan Ardnts to score. The Lady Bulldogs held the Lady Scots to no runs in the bottom of the eighth to win 1-0. Ashton Burrell went 2 for 3 and Megan Arndts went 1 for 3 with the game winning RBI in the 8th. Brittany Fox got the win going 8 innings giving up 0 runs on 1 hit, striking out 10 and walking 2.
In the second game, the Lady Bulldogs started out scoring 4 runs in the second inning. Ashton Burrell singled to short and then advanced on a stolen base. Burrell then advanced to third on a passed ball. Hughes grounded out to second and Burrell scored. Heather Gibson reached first on a dropped fly, then Jackson reached base on a misplayed grounder to allow Gibson to score. Rachel Morretto singled to right to allow Jackson to score. Ashley Bryson tripled to deep right and Morretto scored the 4th run of the inning. The Bulldogs scored three more in the 4th inning starting with Sunni Jackson reaching first on a walk and then advancing to second on a wild pitch. Jackson then advanced to third when Morretto grounded out. Bryson hit another triple allowing Jackson to score. Megan Ardnts reached first on a missed catch and Bryson scored. The final run of the inning came when Kanissa Webb hit a double and Ardnts scored. The Lady Scots scored one in the bottom of the 4th, then the Lady Bulldogs scored another in the top of the fifth. The Lady Scots answered with 4 runs in the bottom of the fifth making the score 8-5. Both teams scored one run in the seventh, making the final score 9-6. Ashley Bryson went 3 for 4 with 3 triples and 2 RBIs and Kanissa Webb went 2 for 4 with a double and an RBI. The winning pitcher for TWC was Paige Goins going 5 innings giving up 5 runs on 8 hits and walking 2. Brittany Fox recorded the save.
The Lady Bulldogs play next on March 18th at home against Virginia Intermont College and then at home on the 19th against Maryville College. Both games start at 2:00 pm.
