The Lady Bulldogs hosted a double header with Maryville College on Friday afternoon. The Lady Bulldogs came away with two wins over Maryville with scores of 1-0 and 4-3.
The first game was scoreless for the first five innings. All though TWC only had one hit they hit a lot of balls hard at the defense, and only striking out one time during the game. TWC was finally able to push across the winning run in the 6th inning. Sunni Jackson led off the inning being hit by a pitch, stole second and later scored on a two out error on a hard hit ball by Megan Arndts. The winning pitcher for TWC was Brittany Monday going 7 innings giving up 0 runs on 6 hit, striking out 5. Freshman Monday from Maryville, TN picked up her first colligate win pitching out of two bases loading jams, keeping Maryville scoreless. Rachele Moretto went 1 for 2 with a stolen base.
In game two, TWC fell behind 3-0 until the bats came alive in the 4th inning. Jackson led off the inning with a double, after a bunt single by Moretto, Ashley Bryson cleared the bases with a 3 run home run over the left field fence. The Lady Bulldogs scored the go ahead run in the bottom of the 5th, when Chealsey Baxter reached on an error went to third on a single by Jackson and finally scored on a single by Bryson. For a final score 4-3. The winning pitcher for TWC was Brittany Fox going 7 innings giving up 3 runs on 5 hits and striking out 3. Ashley Bryson went 2 for 3 with a home run and 4 RBIs. Sunni Jackson went 2 for 3 with a run scored and a double.
The Lady Bulldogs play at home on March 24th at 2:00 pm against Montreat College and then on March 25th at 3:00 against the University of the Cumberlands.
