The Lady Bulldogs traveled to Union College on Saturday, March 27th to play in AAC softball action. The Lady Bulldogs split with Union taking game one in eight innings 4-3 and losing game two 6-5.

In game one, Tennessee Wesleyan took advantage of a two-base error to open the scoring on the afternoon in the top of the first inning, taking an early advantage, 1-0. With a runner on first, Megan Arndts slapped a single to right field which was misplayed, allowing the runner to score from first base and moving Arndts to third base. Union threatened to tie the score in the bottom of the second when Ashley Tatman roped a single to center field, putting runners on first and second with two outs. However, a Bethany Rogers strikeout ended the early scoring threat for Union. Tennessee Wesleyan looked poised to extend the lead in the top of the fourth when the Lady Bulldogs smacked back-to-back singles with two outs, putting runners on first and second. Sarah Driver of Union kept Tennessee Wesleyan at bay in the frame, ended the scoring threat one batter later as she struck out Brittnie Hester to end the inning. Union took advantage of an error in the bottom of the fifth inning when the Tennessee Wesleyan first baseman pulled her foot from the bag on a throw from third base, allowing Bethany Rogers to reach safely with one out.   With two outs, Ali Blauser knocked a single to left field, moving Rogers to second. Sarah Driver stepped up to the plate after Blauser and belted a three-run homerun to right center, making the score 3-1.  Tennessee Wesleyan did not wait long to pull even, scoring two in the top of the sixth inning on an Ashton Burrell two out single to center, making the score 3-3. Union looked to end the contest in the seventh, loading the bases with two outs, but a groundball to third base off the bat of Abby Sears ended the scoring chance. Tennessee Wesleyan scratched across a run in the top of the eighth inning when Ashley Bryson crossed the plate on a sacrifice fly to right field off the bat of Arndts. With two outs and a runner on second in the bottom of the eight Union pinch hitter Jessie Dunning smacked a sharp ground ball to first that proved to be too hot to handle, but Jennifer Burke was thrown out a home to end the game.

Ashton Burrell led the team going 4 for 4 with 2 RBIs. Megan Arndts went 1 for 3 with an RBI. Brittany Fox was the winning pitcher going 8 innings giving up 3 runs on 9 hits, striking out 6 and walking one.

In game two Tennessee Wesleyan started off hot as the Lady Bulldogs scored two in the first inning off of a two-run homerun from Ashley Bryson. Union put its first two batters on base in the bottom of the second thanks to back-to-back singles from Abby Sears and Ashley Tatman, but TWC's hurler, Paige Goins, retired the next three batters to close the book on Union in the inning. Union exploded offensively in the bottom of the fourth, plating four in the inning on four hits. Lee Davis got things rolling for Union, slapping an RBI double that scored Ashley Tatman. Christi Day followed with an RBI single of her own, plating Davis. Bethany Outland then stepped up and ripped an RBI single to right center, scoring Christi Day. A fielding error at third base off the bat of Gina Loflin scored Ali Blauser, pushing the Union advantage to 4-2. Union would add to its lead in the bottom of the fifth when Ali Blauser belted an RBI single to left, scoring Autumn Greenwell and pushing the Union lead to 5-2. Tennessee Wesleyan answered back in the top of the sixth, scoring three unearned runs in the frame. Two of the three runs came off a Kanissa Webb double to deep left field. A fielding error with a runner on second resulted in the third unearned run in the inning, tying the contest at 5-5. Union answered the bell in the last of the seventh as Lee Davis led off the inning with a single to center field. Christi Day stepped up to the plate and layed down a sacrifice bunt, moving Davis to second base, and Ali Blauser finished off Tennessee Wesleyan with a rocket line drive down the left field line scoring Davis and ending the game with a final score of 6-5.
