
The Bulldogs traveled to Appalachian State for lacrosse action over the weekend. The Bulldogs came away with an 18-17 victory in overtime. The Bulldogs took an early 6-4 lead in the first quarter but Appalachian State game back in the 2nd quarter to outscore the Bulldogs 5-4 leaving the Bulldogs with only a one point lead at half. Third quarter ended with each team scoring 3 goals. The last quarter looked much like the 2nd with Appalachian State outscoring Wesleyan 5-4 and tying the game. The Mountaineers won the overtime faceoff and were able to set up their offense but a great save by John Lemoine for TWC left the Bulldogs still in the game. The Bulldogs cleared the ball and worked it around before a dodge from the wing created the game winning shot.
For the first time this season, the Bulldogs were dominated at the faceoff winning only 10 of 38 attempts. The Bulldogs win broke the 8 game winning streak that Appalachian State had showing that the Bulldogs are good contenders for the SELC Division II title.
Ryan Horvath showed once again why he is leading the SELC Division II in goals and points per game by scoring 6 in this game, including the game winner, and having 2 assists. Jacob Estrada contributed 4 goals and one assist to the Bulldogs. Austin Tosky and Justin Bell each had 2 goals. Also scoring for the Bulldogs with one goal each was Jackson Isler, Michael McNitt, Taylor Parker, and Elijah Woods. Taylor Parker , Elijah Woods, and Jackson Isler all had an assist as well.
The Bulldogs play next at Vanderbilt on April 17th at 2:00 pm. Then they will be in Athens at the McMinn County High School field to play against UT at 7:00 pm on April 20th.
