The Bulldogs traveled to Montreat College on Thursday for a make-up game. Tennessee Wesleyan College snapped a 5-5 tie with a run in the seventh and pulled away to a 14-5 Appalachian Athletic Conference victory. Wesleyan improved to 35-13 overall and raised their AAC record to 18-6.
Troy Graybill started Thursday's game and pitched into the sixth before being relieved by Lewis with one out and the game knotted at five. Lewis got out of the jam and went on to toss 2 2/3 scoreless innings before Drew Housewright came in to pitch the final frame. Wesleyan took the lead with a run in the seventh, added three more in the eighth and broke the game open with a five-run ninth. Wesleyan had 17 hits, led by Johnny Smith, 2-for-2 with a home run, four runs scored and three RBIs, and Cody Gaskill. 2-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and four RBIs. Rafael Carlot was 2-for-4 with a double and home run; Brad Pippa 2-for-5 with a double and two RBIs; Andrew Tharpe 2-for-4 with a home run, two runs scored and RBI and C.J. McElroy 2-for-4 with two runs scored. Graybill gave up five runs on 10 hits while striking out five and walking two. Lewis got the win, allowing three hits, striking out three and walking one. Housewright surrendered two hits and fanned one.
