Max Loveland hits a 3-run homer in the bottom of the 8th and closes the game in the 9th
The Bulldogs played in their first game of the AAC tournament on Saturday against Montreat College.  The Bulldogs pulled out a win with a score of 12-9.  The Bulldogs banged out 17 hits and Max Loveland hit a dramatic two-out three-run homer, his second round-tripper of the game, in the bottom of the 8th as Wesleyan defeated Montreat 12-9 Saturday at Hunter-Wright Stadium. 
Wesleyan jumped out to a 7-2 lead after three innings, but Montreat chipped away and tied the game at nine with a run in the top of the 8th. In the bottom of the inning, C.J. McElroy and Johnny Smith both walked before Loveland launched his game-winning homer with two outs. Loveland then took the mound and closed out the game by retiring Montreat in order in the 9th.
 
Loveland was 3-for-4 with a two home runs and a triple, driving in five runs and scoring four.  Brad Pippa was 3-for-4 with two doubles, two runs scored, three RBI; Ryan Carlot 2-for-4, two doubles, two runs scored, RBI; Andrew Tharpe 2-for-4, RBI and Cody Gaskill 1-for-4, run scored and RBI.  
 
Troy Graybill started for Wesleyan, allowing two runs on three hits with one strikeout and five walks in 2 1/3 innings. Drew Housewright surrendered four runs (three earned) on four hits and struck out three in 2 2/3 innings. Ronald Phelps gave up two runs (one earned) on three hits, fanned one and walked two in two innings.  Daniel Wood picked up the win, giving up a run on one hit with one strikeout in one inning. Loveland earned the save with a strikeout in his 1-2-3 inning of work.
 
The Bulldogs next game is Monday, May 10th at 5:00 pm against Milligan College.
