The Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs have been picked to win the Appalachian Athletic Conference in 2011 in the preseason poll released today. Right behind the Bulldogs in the poll is Union College in 2nd and Bluefield College in 3rd. Milligan, Reinhardt, Bryan, Montreat, and Virginia Intermont follow in the poll respectively. This is the fourth year in the last 5 for the Bulldogs to be picked to win the Conference.
The Bulldogs have won the AAC regular season title 8 of the last 9 years. Tennessee Wesleyan has won the AAC Tournament in 2004, 2007, 2008, 2009, and 2010. The Bulldogs defeated Milligan in 2004, Montreat in 2007, Union in 2008 and 2009, and then Bluefield last season. In 2004 and 2006 the Bulldogs won the Region XII tournaments defeating Brevard College and Spaulding University, respectively.
In 2009, the Bulldogs made their first appearance at the NAIA National Championship Opening Round. Tennessee Wesleyan was seeded first at the Cleveland, TN site and finished 3rd. Last season the Bulldogs traveled to Columbus, GA for the Opening round and defeated Southern Polytechnic University to advance for the first time to the Avista-NAIA World Series.
