The Bulldogs hosted Union College on Saturday in a game that proved how important free throws were. Tennessee Wesleyan lost 72-66, leaving them 2-3 in the AAC and 8-11 overall.
In the first half, Tennessee Wesleyan controlled the pace and took a slim 36-32 lead going into intermission. TWC was led by Matt Harper in the period, who scored 10 points.
In the second half, defense was the name of the game for the Union, as they held Tennessee Wesleyan to just 32.3 percent shooting from the floor and forced eight turnovers to take control of the game. On the offensive end, Union did just enough, as they outscored TWC 40-30 in the period to take the six point victory.
Union was helped in the win by an impressive performance from the free throw line, ending the night shooting 81.8 percent from the charity stripe (18-of-22), while the Bulldogs shot 38.7 % (12-of-31).
Tennessee Wesleyan was led by Matt Harper, who finished with 18 points and 8 rebounds. Matt Towry had 17 points and E'Jay Ward put in 13.
The Bulldogs have a tough week, playing Maryville tonight at 7:30 pm, then at home on Wednesday for the Blue Out against Virginia Intermont. Tennessee Wesleyan will then play the make up game against Reinhardt University on Thursday at 6:00 pm and at home on Saturday against Milligan College.
