The Bulldogs hosted Milligan College on Saturday afternoon. This is the second time the Bulldogs have played Milligan this season. In the first game on January 5th, the Bulldogs were defeated 84-80. The Bulldogs hoped to come out ahead on Saturday but it still didn't come together for them.
The Bulldogs showed improvement outrebounding Milligan 36-35, shooting 47.6 percent in field goals versus 40.0% for the Buffaloes, and shooting 70.8% at the free throw line.
The first half showed back and forth leads for both teams with Milligan out ahead by 3 going into half time. The Bulldogs lead by as much as 6 seven minutes into the game, but Milligan went on a 12-3 run to take back the lead at just under the 10 minute mark. At the end of the half the game was tied after Milligan hit 2 free throws. With a missed 3 point by Dylan Powers, Milligan took the ball down to hit a "trey" to take the lead 44-41.
In the second half, Milligan pulled out to lead by as much as 9 half way through the half, but the Bulldogs answered with a 10-2 run to come back within1 point. The Bulldogs took the lead 74-73 with a field goal by Matt Harper with 3:27 left in the game. Milligan was not giving up and scored 17 while holding the Bulldogs to just 5 to take an 11 point lead with 18 seconds left. E'Jay Ward scored a 3 leave them trailing by 8 and then fouled to leave time on the clock. Milligan hit both free throws taking the lead by up to 10. E'Jay hit another 3 at the buzzer leaving the Bulldogs defeated 85-92.
E'Jay Ward led the Bulldogs with 31 points, 7 rebounds, and 8 assists. Matt Towry scored 20 points and pulled down 10 rebounds. Matt Harper put in 14 points and Dylan Powers had 12.
The Bulldogs play a non-conference match up at home tonight against Young Harris at 7:30 pm. Tennessee Wesleyan previously played Young Harris on November 29th at won 75-73. The Bulldogs will then travel to Montreat on Wednesday for a 7:30 pm game.
