Lee University visited the Bulldogs this Tuesday for the first of 2 games this season being played in Athens. The Bulldogs were defeated 10-2 by the Flames.
Wesleyan starter Brady Frey issued three first-inning walks, but had a chance to get of the jam before a poor throw on a double-play led to two runs. Two more walks and a wild throw on a pickoff attempt gave Lee another run in the second without the benefit of a hit. This time, a 4-6-3 double-play did end the inning. Frey settled down and retired six of the next seven batters he faced.
In the fifth, however, three straight errors and a bunt single plated two more runs with nobody out, but Jordan Guida's fielded a flyball in left field and his throw to the plate nailed a second runner to help cut the inning short. Wesleyan had only a walk and Sam Munson's single through the first four innings. In the fifth, Guida and Rafael Carlot led off the inning with singles. Guida later scored on Anthony Biox's groundout. Carlot was left at third, leaving TWC trailing, 5-1.
Corey Collins then tossed two scoreless innings of relief. Lee added a run in the 8th off reliever Matt Brennan on a walk, wild pitch and single. The Flames struck for four runs in the 9th inning that included two walks, a hit batter and an error to go with two hits. Wesleyan's final run came in the 9th. Munson singled and scored on David Lindsay's single.
Munson had two of Wesleyan's five hits. Frey took the loss, allowing five runs on just two hits with six walks and two strikeouts.
The Bulldogs host Brescia this weekend, playing a double header on Saturday at 12:00 pm and then a 9 inning game on Sunday at 2:00 pm.
