Tennessee Wesleyan College's softball team dropped a pair of games in the season opener at Lee University on Wednesday.
TWC fell 11-2 in five innings in the first game, managing only three hits and committing one error. The Lady Bulldogs trailed 8-0 going to the bottom of the fifth before scoring two runs in the inning. Lindsey Arndts singled and came home on a two-run home run by Brooke Ward. Ward went 1-for-3 with a homer and two RBIs while Arndts went 1-for-2 and scored a run. Brandi Lasley had TWC's only other hit.
Brittany Monday took the loss, giving up seven runs on four hits in three innings of work. She struck out three and walked four. Ashley Miller pitched one inning, giving up four runs on four hits.
The Lady Bulldogs showed more offense in the second game with seven hits, but still lost 12-4 in six innings. Wesleyan scored two runs in the third and two more runs in the sixth. Arndts reached base on a single and Ward walked in the third and both scored on a single by Ashley Bryson. In the sixth, Stacie Nelson led off with single and moved to third on a double by Lasley. Nelson later scored on a fielder's choice by Kaylyn Maxwell and Lasley reached home from third on a wild pitch.
Bryson went 1-for-3 with two RBIs while Nelson and Lasley each had two hits. Rachele Moretto and Arndts both had one hit. Kayla Kern took the loss for the Lady Bulldogs. She gave up seven hits and 12 runs while striking out four and walking two.
The Lady Bulldogs travel to University of the Cumberlands on Tuesday, February 22nd for a doubleheader at 3:00 pm.
