As the regular season champions, the Lady Bulldogs had a chance to host their first round game of the AAC Conference Tournament with Bryan College on Tuesday night. With a win, Tennessee Wesleyan would host the rest of the AAC Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday. Bryan entered the game as the #8 seed, while the nationally ranked #15 Tennessee Wesleyan was the #1 seed.
The Lady Bulldogs started off to a rocky start, unable to score for the first 5 minutes and 45 seconds of the game, while Bryan went up 5-0. The Lady Bulldogs scored six straight points to take a 6-5 lead with 12:34 left in the half. The two teams battled back and forth before TWC took the lead at 13-11 to never relinquish it. The Lady Bulldogs went into the locker room at halftime ahead 28-22.
In the second half the Lady Lions cut the lead down to three points but were unable to get any closer. The Lady Bulldogs' largest lead came at 64-45. Bryan came back at the end for an 8-0 run but it wasn't enough. The Lady Bulldogs defeated the Lady Lions 64-53.
Lady Bulldogs shot 37.7% and the Lady Lions shot 37.3% from the floor. Both teams went 10-for-16 from the free-throw line. Tennessee Wesleyan forced 20 turnovers for Bryan while only committing 8 of their own. The Lady Lions out rebounded the Lady Bulldogs 41-30.
Heather Gibson finished the game with 23 points and 6 rebounds. Also finishing in double digits was Amy Jo Castor with 10 points.
The Lady Bulldogs will host the rest of the AAC Conference Tournament on Friday and Saturday. At 5:30 pm on Friday Milligan will play Montreat College, and then at 7:30 pm, the Lady Bulldogs will play Bluefield College. The Championship game will be on Saturday at 7:00 pm.
