The Bulldogs traveled across the river to play at Bryan College for the Opening Round of the AAC Tournament. The Lions of Bryan College entered the tournament as the #2 seed, while the Bulldogs were the #7 seed. Tennessee Wesleyan pulled off the upset, as Bryan fell by a final score 63-56.Bryan came out to score the first basket of the game. The two schools swapped the lead back and forth for six minutes. With the score tied at nine points apiece, the Bulldogs went on a 13-2 run to take the lead which they would never relinquish. The Bulldogs had their largest lead of 11 points in the first half at 22-11. The two teams went into halftime with the Bulldogs ahead 35-39.
The Bulldogs led the entire second half, but the lead never reached double-digits. Bryan cut the lead down to one point on four different occasions. TWC hit eight of their nine free throw attempts in the last minute of the game to maintain their lead and earn the win.
The Bulldogs shot 35.7% from the floor for the game, 44.8% in the first half and just 25.9% in the second. The Bulldogs forced 14 turnovers from the Lions, while only committing 9. Bryan did out rebound the Bulldogs 43-37.
Justin Hicks led the Bulldogs with 13 points and 4 rebounds. Also scoring in double digits was Jesse Booher with 12 and Sean Bridges with 11. Matt Harper pulled down 6 rebounds for the Bulldogs.
The Bulldogs will travel to Milligan College on Saturday for the final competitions of the AAC Tournament. The Bulldogs will face Reinhardt at 2:00 pm, then host Milligan will play Union college at 4:00 pm. The winner of each game will play in the Championship game on Monday at 7:00 pm.
