With a 68-64 win over No. 2 seed Milligan (Tenn.) Saturday, top-seeded Tennessee Wesleyan captured its second consecutive Appalachian Athletic Conference Women's Basketball Tournament championship.
Tennessee Wesleyan wrapped a perfect conference season, going 14-0 during the regular season and 3-0 in tournament play as the Lady Bulldog will now move on to the NAIA Division II Women's Basketball National Championship Tournament.
At 29-3 overall, Tennessee Wesleyan enters the national tournament on a 21-game win streak. The Lady Bulldogs have won 25 games in a row against conference tournaments. The last time Tennessee Wesleyan lost within the conference came on Feb. 13, 2010, when it fell 51-48 at Bluefield (Va.).
In the championship game, four Lady Bulldogs scored in double figures to propel them to the four-point win. Tennessee Wesleyan led 30-21 at the half, but Milligan outscored TWC 43-38 in the second half. However, it was not enough as the Lady Bulldogs held on for the 68-64 victory.
Heather Gibson led TWC with 19 points with Brittany Steen knocking 16. Leah Frazier added 10 points, while Candace Cain recorded a double-double with 10 points and 11 rebounds.
