The Bulldogs hosted Georgetown College on Wednesday for a single 9-inning game. The Bulldogs defeated the Tigers 10-4.
Johnny Smith put TWC on the board in the bottom of the first with a leadoff home run. Wesleyan added two more runs in the second. David Bergin homered to begin the inning. Sam Munson doubled and Ryan Carlot singled, but it took a wild pitch to chase the second run home. Gaskill's roundtripper in the third gave the Bulldogs a 4-0 lead.
Noah Piard tossed the first three innings, allowing no hits and struck out three, but walked three and hit one batter. Reliever Matt Brennan surrendered two runs in the fourth, walking the bases full, followed by Georgetown's first hit, but also struck out the side. Brennan would shut out the Tigers in the fifth and sixth innings. Wesleyan got those runs back in the fifth. Stephen Branca singled, Bergin doubled him home and C.J. McElroy slapped an RBI single.
Corey Collins took over for two innings and gave up a run on a walk and single in the seventh. Once again, TWC responded with three runs. McElroy's single, a walk and Smith's second home run did the damage and put the Dogs on top, 9-3. Wesleyan's final run came in the eighth on consecutive singles from Branca, Gaskill and Bergin, followed by Munson's sacrifice fly. Ronnie Phelps pitched the ninth, allowing one run on two hits and a walk.
Bergin paced the 15-hit attack, going 4-for-5 with a home run and double. Smith had two hits, both home runs. Gaskill and McElroy added two hits each. Georgetown (16-14) had just six hits, but Wesleyan pitchers issued eight walks and hit one batter while striking out eight.
The Bulldogs play Milligan on Friday for a 7-inning double header beginning at 1:00 pm. The single nine inning game time will be determined on Friday afternoon based on the weather.
