The Bulldogs traveled to Virginia Intermont for the AAC weekend series against the Cobras. The Bulldogs struggled from beginning to end. They lost the first game 3-2, won the second game 6-2 in 8 innings, and came back to win the final game 7-6.

Cobras 3, Bulldogs 2

VI scored three times in the fifth to wipe out a 1-0 deficit and the Bulldogs could only get one run back in the sixth. Wesleyan did not make an error, but managed just four hits. Stephen Branca went 2-for-3 with a run scored, RBI and two stolen bases. David Bergin had a hit and an RBI. Bergin (6-1) took the loss, giving up three runs on eight hits while striking out five and did not walk a batter in five innings. Corey Collins worked one hitless inning with two strikeouts and a walk.

Bulldogs 6, Cobras 2 (8 innings)

Wesleyan led 2-1 with two outs in the bottom of the seventh when a dropped flyball allowed the Cobras to tie the game. TWC responded with four runs in the eighth and Collins again slammed the door. Josh McDaniel went 6 1/3 innings, allowing one unearned run. McDaniel surrendered just four hits, struck out 10 and walked three. Collins also gave up one unearned run on three hits and struck out two in 1 2/3 innings.   Sophomore Michael Whiteford, returning from an early-season leg injury, had two hits. Sam Munson added two hits, including a triple, with two runs scored. Ryan Santos had a double and two RBIs; Bergin a double, run scored and RBI and Jordan Guida a hit with two RBIs.

Bulldogs 7, Cobras 6

Three errors helped Virginia Intermont build a 5-0 lead going to the eighth when TWC put up three runs. The Dogs added four more runs in the ninth to lead 7-5 and held on. Matt Brennan allowed four runs, only two earned, over three innings, giving up four hits, walking five and striking out three. Wil Ickes got the win, allowing one run on two hits while striking out four and walking one over five innings. Ronnie Phelps picked up the save, surrendering one run on two hits and fanning one. Santos had three hits with a double; Whiteford two hits, run scored; Bergin two hits, two runs scored; Anthony Boix two hits, two RBIs and Guida a triple with two RBIs.

The Bulldogs play the final game in the Milligan series on Monday, Shorter University at home on Tuesday, Lee University in Cleveland on Wednesday, and then finish the week with an AAC series with Bryan on Friday and Saturday.
