The Bulldogs traveled to Bryan College for the 3 game weekend series. They swept the series winning all three games. Wesleyan banged out 38 hits, including nine home runs, and never trailed in posting 10-6, 8-6 and 11-2 decisions. Wesleyan (28-15 overall) moved into second place in the AAC standings with an 11-4 mark, two games behind league-leading Union (32-8, 10-2). Reinhardt University (15-20-1, 8-5-1) is third, followed by Milligan (18-22, 8-7), Bryan (22-17, 4-8), Montreat (11-22, 4-8), Bluefield (13-20-1, 3-6-1) and Virginia Intermont (6-27, 2-8).
Bulldogs 10, Lions 6
David Bergin (6-1) went the distance, allowing six runs on nine hits while striking out nine and walking just one over nine innings. TWC grabbed a 2-0 lead in the third when Ryan Santos singled and Johnny Smith hit a home run. Tied at two, the Bulldogs put up three runs in the sixth when Smith led off with his second home run, followed by hits from Stephen Branca, Cody Gaskill, Ryan Carlot and Anthony Boix. Leading 5-3, the Dogs broke the game open with a four-run seventh on two-run homers from Gaskill and Carlot. The Bulldogs had 14 hits, led by Gaskill with three, driving in three runs. Smith's two home runs accounted for three runs while Carlot had two with four RBIs. Branca and Boix added two hits each.
Bulldogs 8, Lions 6
Wesleyan scored single runs in the first, fourth and fifth innings, including a home run by Branca, but Bryan posted two runs in the bottom of the fifth to draw within one. TWC went up 5-2 in the sixth on a Carlot homer, Boix double and sacrifice fly. Wesleyan added what proved to be three big runs in the seventh when Gaskill and Bergin singled in front of another home run by Carlot that plated three runs for an 8-2 lead. Bryan rallied in the bottom of the inning, drawing within two by scoring four runs. Josh McDaniel went 6 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on seven hits with six strikeouts and one walk. Noah Piard got the save, surrendering one run on one hit and two walks in one-third inning of relief. Carlot led the 13-hit attack for TWC with two home runs and a single, driving in five runs. Gaskill also had three hits while Michael Whiteford and Boix had two each.
Bulldogs 11, Lions 2
Gaskill homered and Jordan Guida had a two-run roundtriper in a three-run second frame. TWC put the game away with a seven-run fifth, highlighted by RBI hits from Branca, Gaskill, Guida and Boix. Ben Crocker tossed the first five innings, allowing one run on two hits with five strikeouts and four walks. Corey Collins pitched one inning, giving up a run on one hit, a walk and striking out one. Ronnie Phelps went one inning, striking out two and hitting one batter. The Bulldogs had 11 hits with Gaskill and Guida each having two and driving in three runs each. Boix and Santos also had two hits each.
The Bulldogs will face non-conference opponent Tennessee Temple University in Chattanooga on Tuesday, starting at 4 p.m. They play Saturday and Sunday against visiting Bluefield College.
