The Bulldogs hosted Bluefield College this weekend for the three game conference series. Wesleyan dropped to 29-17 overall and 12-6 in the AAC after only winning one out of three. The Bulldogs pulled out a win, 9-7, on Saturday with a homerun by Rafael Carlot, but lost 9-5 and 6-4 on Sunday.

Bulldogs 9, Rams 7

Stephen Brancas' leadoff double and two flyballs gave TWC a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Bluefield responded with three runs in the second frame, including a two-run homer, and went up 4-1 in the fourth when two Wesleyan outfielders collided with the runner circling the bases before the ball could be retrieved. Wesleyan got a run back in the home half on a hit batsman and singles from David Bergin and Sam Munson. The Bulldogs posted five runs in the fifth to take a 7-4 lead on hits by Anthony Boix, Johnny Smith, Bergin and Rafael Carlot, along with an error, two walks and a sacrifice fly. Bluefield drew even at seven in the seventh with four hits off Wesleyan starter Corey Collins and reliever Noah Piard. Piard, however, retired seven of the next eight men he faced, allowing only a walk, to keep the game tied. In the bottom of the ninth, Bergin led off with his fourth straight hit and Carlot followed with his game-winning home run. Collins went 6 2/3 innings, giving up six runs on 11 hits while striking out two and walking won. Piard got the win, surrendering one run on two hits and walking one. Bergin was 4-for-5 with an RBI and two runs scored. Carlot and Munson had two hits each. Smith, Cody Gaskill, Carlot and Munson each had two RBIs.

Rams 9, Bulldogs 5

Dave Bergin had given up only two hits and Wesleyan led 2-1 through four innings, scoring both runs in the third on hits by Boix and C.J. McElroy. In the fifth, however, the Rams put together six hits to score four runs and take a 5-2 lead. Ronnie Phelps replaced Bergin to start the sixth and surrendered a grandslam home run that put Bluefield on top, 9-2. Wesleyan scored three times in the seventh and final inning on a Boix double, two-run single from Cody Gaskill and RBi hit from Carlot. Bergin went five innings, allowing five runs on eight hits with three strikeouts and one walk. Phelps gave up four runs on three hits with one strikeout and one walk. Drew Housewright tossed one scoreless inning with one hit and one strikeout. Wesleyan had eight, two by Boix.

Rams 6, Bulldogs 4

A Gaskill single, error and wild pitch gave TWC a 2-1 lead after one inning. Bluefield tied the game at two in the third before a Bergin home run put the Bulldogs up 3-2 after four innings. An infield hit, error, double, walk, wild pitch and passed ball plated three runs as the Rams went in front, 5-3, in the fifth. Jordan Guida's home run cut the gap to 5-4, but the Rams added a run and the Bulldogs went quietly in their final two at-bats. Ben Crocker took the loss, allowing five runs on just five hits, but walked six over 4 1/3 innings. Will Ickes went a 1/3 of an inning, striking out one and walking two. Matt Brennan tossed 2 1/3 innings, giving up a run on two hits with three strikeouts. The Bulldogs six hits came from six different players.
