Head Coach- 3rd Season

Shawn Jakubowski begins his third season has head Men's and Women's Track and Cross Country coach at Tennessee Wesleyan in 2014-2015.  Since Coach Jakubowski arrived at Wesleyan they have won 1 women’s track and field AAC conference championship (2013) and 1 men’s AAC track and field championship (2014), both times he was named AAC Track and Field Coach of the Year.  Both teams also have had 2 runner up finishes at the conference meet.  While at TWC he has coached 7 track and field individual national qualifiers and 2 NAIA All Americans.  In cross country both the men’s and women’s teams have finished runner up  in the AAC conference meet.   In 2013 the men’s team received an at large bid to compete at the national championships where they finished 17th.  The women also had 3 individuals that qualified for the NAIA national championships in 2013.  Total Coach Jakubowski has had 10 NAIA cross country national qualifiers at TWC. 

Previous to coming to TWC, Shawn spent three seasons as the assistant coach at Berea College, helping to coach 28 men and women individual National Qualifiers as well as 7 men and women's KIAC team championships. Berea College Men's Cross Country has also placed in the top 30 the past two seasons at the NAIA National Cross Country Championships.   He also worked full time as a production engineer at Hitachi automotive in 2012 he quit his full time job to focus on his true passion, coaching.  “not many people get to wake up every day and look forward to going to work, but I do.  I get to work with great student-athletes every day and help them reach their goals in the classroom and on the track, there is nothing I would rather do” said Coach Jakubowski. 

Shawn did his undergraduate work at Berea College and was a member of the current Berea record holding 4x800m relay team. That team finished 5th at nationals earning Shawn first team All-American honors.   

He then went on to Eastern Kentucky University and got a Masters in Sports Administration.  He also has his USATF Level 1 and Level 2.  His Level 2 is in sprints, hurdles, relays.  Shawn and  his wife Laurie have one son, Hayden and live in Athens, TN.

Assistant Coach- 1st Season

Alex Kluchki joins the cross country/track and field coaching staff for the Tennessee Wesleyan Bulldogs this upcoming season as an assistant coach.

Prior to coming to Tennessee Wesleyan, Alex served as the graduate assistant cross country/track and field coach at McKendree University. While at McKendree, he coached two female athletes to all-time cross country school records. This includes school records for race distances for 4,000 meters and 6,000 meters. On the men side, he coached one male athlete to a freshman all-time cross country school record in the 6,000 meter and the 10,000 meter races. He played a major role in recruiting at McKendree, signing six athletes during the early NCAA signing period.

Alex, a resident from Tinley Park, IL, graduated from Lewis University in May 2014 with a degree in Sport Management. At Lewis University, Alex competed for both the cross country and track team. He was also a recipient of the GLVC Academic All-Conference Team every semester as well as a recipient of the Br. David Delahanty Award, an award given out to student-athletes who maintained a cumulative GPA of 3.25 or higher each year. Upon graduation, Alex earned the GLVC Council of President’s Academic Excellence Award. This award is given to all student-athletes who have maintained a GPA average of at least 3.5 and have completed a minimum of 96 credit hours.

Additionally, in 2012, he helped the Lewis Flyers cross country team earn a 14th national ranking in the USTFCCCA National Rankings. He also assisted the Flyers in capturing the 2014 GLVC Indoor Track and Field Championship, their first indoor conference title since 2005. Alex specialized in the longer distance running events while competing at Lewis University.

Assistant Coach- 1st Season

Coach Roberts comes to TWC after 29 years as a High School coach at Knoxville West (21 yrs) and Oak Ridge (8 yrs).

Roberts coached Tennessee State Champions Cross country teams in 1994 (boys) and 1998 (girls) and also had a championship team in Grils track in 2006 and was assistant coach for State winning Cross Country teams at Oak Ridge in 2007 (boys and girls), 2009 (girls) and 2010 (girls).

During the years at West and Oak Ridge Roberts coached 45 individual state champions in Sprints, Jumps, Hurdles, Relays and Distance/Cross Country.

Coach Roberts won several State, Knoxville Metro and Knoxville Interscholastic League Coach of the Year awards while at West and is a former President of the State and Knoxville area Cross Country Coaches associations.

At Tennessee Wesleyan Roberts will deal primarily with Sprints, Hurdles and strength training.

Coach Roberts is married to Tammy Roberts (32 years), has two children, Haley (27) and Haden (21) and a grandson, Copeland (3).
