Coach Ashley Harris enters her fourth season at Tennessee Wesleyan University. During each of her first three seasons, Harris has increased the win total each year. She set a school record with 16 wins in 2016, which included a program best third place finish at the conference tournament. She recruited and coached the 2016 AVCA Northeast Regional Freshmen of the Year, Sundara Chinn. During her first three seasons, Harris has more then doubled the conference win percentage from the previous four years before she arrived.
Ashley Harris was given one of the top honors a volleyball coach can receive when she was recognized as one of the top "30 Under 30" coaches in the country by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2017.
Harris came to TWU from Maryville College where she was an assistant coach from 2012-2014. She helped lead MC to a USA South conference championship in 2013, and an appearance in the NCAA DIII national playoffs. She also coached the elite level travel teams for K2 volleyball club in Knoxville, TN during this time as well.
Harris was born and raised in Abrams, WI, and played volleyball and softball at Cardinal Stritch University in Milwaukee, WI. In volleyball, she was a four-year starter and team captain her senior year when she led the team in blocks and was second in kills. She graduated from Stritch in 2008 with a major in sports management and a minor in communications.
Ashley is married to Ian Harris, who is her assitant coach and recruiting coordinator. They have a daughter named Poppy Austinn, who was born in April 2016. She is the daughter to Jerry and Kathy Sutrick, and sister to Hailey and Adam Sutrick.
Ian Harris has been hired as recruiting coordinator and assistant coach for the volleyball program at Tennessee Wesleyan University. Harris was formally the recruiting coordinator and defensive line coach for the Maryville College football program since 2012. During his time as recruiting coordinator at Maryville College, the team won three USA South championships and was the winningest college football program in the state of Tennessee. Harris coached 13 all conference players during his five seasons, and spearheaded a fundraiser to help out with Hurricane Harvey relief in Houston that raised nearly $5,000 in just a weeks’ time. Prior to Maryville College, he worked as the director of player personnel for arena football teams, the Green Bay Blizzard, Columbus Lions, and Oklahoma City Yard Dawgz. Harris was the assistant to the recruiting coordinator for the football team at Marshall University during his undergraduate time from 2003-06.
On joining the volleyball program, Harris said, “I am very excited and honored to be a part of the Tennessee Wesleyan University family. The biggest thing that I have seen here is that people really support each other, and work with each other to help accomplish goals. I have never been in an environment that is so warm and welcoming. I look forward to working with a great group of people here at TWU, and a really fun group of girls on this team that have welcomed me with open arms.”
