Champions of Character
Champions of Character
Although many of the athletes at Tennessee Wesleyan College are champions in their sport, they are also striving to be Champions of Character.  The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) designed Champions of Character to instill an understanding of character values in sport and provide practical tools for student athletes, coaches and parents to use in modeling exemplary character traits. The Champions of Character program has created five core values that go beyond the playing field and into the everyday life of the athletes. These core values include: integrity- positive internal traits that guide behavior, respect- treating others the way you want to be treated, responsibility- the social force that binds the individual to the good of the team, sportsmanship- following the rules, spirit, and etiquette of athletic competition, and servant leadership- serves the greater good.

Tennessee Wesleyan was recognized as a Five Star insitution in 2009-2010 and in 2010-2011.  Also recognized in 2010-2011, was the Appalachian Athletic Conference who was recognized as a Five Star Conference and was one of only four to have 100% of members making the grade and scoring over 60 on the Champions of Character Scorecard.

The Champions of Character Scorecard measures each NAIA Institution's commitment to Champions of Character in five key areas. Institutions can earn points in each key area up to a maximum of 100 total points.  All institutions scoring 60 or more total points will be named Five Star Champions of Character Institutions

In an effort to continue being a Five Star Institution the Student-Athletes have decided to do many projects throughout the school year to benefit not only the school but also the community. Through the help of representatives from each sport, activities have been decided and responsibilities have been designated, but help for the activities will come from all athletes on the campus.  In the 2010-2011 Season, the Tennessee Wesleyan Athletic department earned the Institutional Champion of Character Award for the Appalachian Athletic Conference.

The 2011-2012 Season started off with Men's and Women's Soccer assisting the City of Athens with the BATTLE of the BULGE with Bulbs project.
