[Women's Basketball] Lady Bulldogs back on top

With a win for the Lady Bulldogs over Columbia College and a loss for Virginia Intermont, Tennessee Wesleyan is back on top of the AAC Standings. The Lady Bulldogs (11-3) have a one game lead over Virginia Intermont, Bluefield, and Montreat (10-4). Tennessee Wesleyan has a chance to extend that lead on Wednesday when they host Virginia Intermont in a BLUE OUT at 5:30 pm.

The Lady Bulldogs took a 33-27 lead into the locker room at half, despite shooting 38% in total field goals. Tennessee Wesleyan came back in the second half to shoot 56% and win over Columbia, 73-52. The Lady Bulldogs showed much improvement in free throws shooting 76% for the game compared to 46% in the previous game. Tennessee Wesleyan still committed 23 turnovers while only forcing 16 from Columbia.

[Men's Basketball] Bulldogs maintain lead in the AAC

Bluefield College (8-4) traveled to Tennessee Wesleyan (10-2) on Thursday. The Bulldogs maintain the one game lead in the AAC over Reinhardt University. Tennessee Wesleyan easily found the net scoring 53 points in the first half, and then reaching the 100 point mark for the 4^th time this season. The Bulldogs defeated the Rams 100-61.

[Women's Basketball] Lady Bulldogs suffer loss in double overtime

The Lady Bulldogs played host to Bluefield College on Thursday night and let them walk away with a win. The Lady Bulldogs hit just seven of 32 3-point shots; converted only 14 of 30 free throws and had 24 turnovers allowing Bluefield to take the lead most of the game. Tennessee Wesleyan was able to make a run at the end of regulation to tie the game and head into overtime. Bluefield tied the game at the end of the first overtime to add another five minutes to the clock and was able to take the win, 71-67.

Wesleyan trailed 24-20 at the intermission and held its only lead during regulation at 26-25 on a bucket by Cody Houck early in the second half. Bluefield went back in front, 40-34, and was up, 50-43, with less than 90 seconds to play. Taking advantage of missed free throws by the Lady Rams, Wesleyan went on a 9-2 run, fueled by 3-point baskets from Heather Gibson and Houck, to tie the game at 52.

[Women's Soccer] Lady Bulldogs named to 2011 NAIA Women All East Team

Four of the Lady Bulldogs Women's Soccer team were named to the National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) 2011 NAIA Women All-East Team. Deanna Dawson, a junior from Chicago Illinois, Amy Cooley, a freshman from Essex, England, Maddie Thomas, a freshman from Essex, England, and Abby Fannin, a sophomore from Pickerington, Ohio were among those honored.

[Men's Tennis] Men's Tennis begins season in the Top 25

The 2012 NAIA Men's Tennis Coaches' Preseason Top 25 Poll was announced on Tuesday by the national office and Tennessee Wesleyan found themselves among those top 25. The poll was voted upon by a panel of head coaches representing each of the conferences/independents/unaffiliated groupings. The Bulldogs are ranked at number 21, which is the same spot they were in at the end of the 2011 season.

Tennessee Wesleyan is ranked second, right behind Xavier, in the Unaffiliated group of schools from the AAC, GCAC, and TranSouth Conferences. Xavier (La.) is ranked 9th in the NAIA Top 25 poll.

Tennessee Wesleyan received its highest ranking in the poll in 2010 when the Bulldogs were ranked at number 16, and made a trip to the NAIA National Tournament in Mobile, AL.

[Women's Lacrosse] Handshoe joins TWC

Jenna Handshoe has joined the Tennessee Wesleyan Athletic staff as the new Head Coach for Women's Lacrosse. Handshoe is from Greeneville, South Carolina and attended J. L. Mann High School before going on to attend Presbyterian College.

The Bulldogs traveled to Point University on Tuesday in hopes to bring back a win, which they did despite trailing at half by 7. Tennessee Wesleyan remains on top of the AAC Standings with a record of 9-2 with Reinhardt and Bluefield right behind them at 8-3.

With the game being tied 11 times throughout the first half, it wasn't until the last three minutes when Point went on a 7-0 run that the largest lead of the half was gained.

[Men's Soccer] Coach Lyons becomes head coach for Knoxville Force

Stephen Lyons, Head Men's Soccer Coach for TWC, will serve as the Knoxville Force's men's head coach for the 2012 season. Lyons, who served as the Force's assistant coach last season, has played and coached soccer in England, New Zealand and the United States.

Knoxville Force is a semi-professional soccer team that plays in the NPSL's Southeast Conference. NPSL is a highly competitive national league that includes professional, U.S. National Team, university, amateur and international soccer players. Luke Winter and Josh Leader of TWC, bot played in the NPSL Southeast Conference last season.

The Lady Bulldogs cruised past Point University for their ninth straight win on Tuesday night to take another AAC victory and remain atop the conference standings. Tennessee Wesleyan took a 20 point lead just 9 minutes into the game. They extended that lead to 35 at half and went on to win by 48, 93-45.

[Men's Basketball] Smith named AAC Player of the Week

Shannon Smith of Tennessee Wesleyan is the Appalachian Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Player of the Week, the league announced Monday.

Smith helped the Bulldogs to two, high-scoring victories last week as Tennessee Wesleyan defeated Bryan (Tenn.) 107-104 in overtime and Union (Ky.) 100-96. The Bulldogs are now 14-9 overall and lead the AAC with an 8-2 conference mark.

The 6-foot, freshman guard from Cartersville, Ga., averaged 28.5 points per game last week as he hit 63.6 percent of his shots from the floor. Smith went 14-of-20 from the field and 6-for-11 from 3-point range in scoring 42 points against Bryan. He added 15 points on 7-of-13 shooting against Union. He also had seven assists, six rebounds and two steals on the week.

The 42 points is a season high. Prior to that game, 19 points is the most Smith has tallied in a game all season.

On the season, Smith is averaging 8.7 points per game and just under two rebounds and two assists per game.

[Men's Basketball] Bulldogs remain on top

The Bulldogs hosted Union College on Saturday for a game that turned out to be a tougher win than what it looked like on paper. Tennessee Wesleyan came into the game at 13-9 while Union was 5-18. The Bulldogs quickly fell behind 15-7, before a 3 pointer from Shannon Smith, along with baskets by Desmond Crisp, Matt Harper, Quincy Scates and Michael Nicolo put the Bulldogs on top 22-17.

The Bulldogs were able to expand the lead to 41-27, but Union came back to remain behind by only 9 going into the locker room at half.

[Women's Basketball] Lady Bulldogs win 8th in a row

The Lady Bulldogs remain on top of the AAC with a win over Union on Saturday. Tennessee Wesleyan held the Lady Buldogs of Union to 46 while scoring 62 of their own.

Cody Houck drained three treys to help build the 27-14 lead for the Lady Bulldogs, but Union quickly came back on a 14-1 run to tie the score at 28. Michelle Davis put in the final bucket of the half to put the Lady Bulldogs on top 30-28.

[Baseball] Bulldogs split in opening weekend

The Bulldogs opened up their season this weekend at the University of Auburn-Montgomery, playing against AUM, Southern Poly, and Embry Riddle. The Bulldogs came away with 2 wins and 2 losses, splitting with AUM, defeating Southern Poly, and losing to Embry Riddle.

Tennessee Wesleyan started the weekend with the game against Southern Poly on Saturday winning 14-5. The Bulldogs had just nine hits, but took advantage of five errors and put the game away with a seven-run sixth inning.

Senior Stephen Branca led the offense with a home run and double, scoring three runs and driving in four. Junior Jake Stone also had two hits with a double, scored twice and had five RBIs. Senior Taylor Oldham homered with two RBIs and senior Tanner Quirk had a hit with two runs scored.

Junior Jeremy Fitzgerald was the winning pitcher, giving up four runs on six hits with four strikeouts and issued one walk. Senior Corey Collins earned the save, allowing just one run on two hits with three strikeouts over three innings.

[TWC] Tennessee Wesleyan announces the addition of Track and Field

Tennessee Wesleyan College (Athens, TN) announces the addition of Men's and Women's Track and Field to the varsity sports lineup. This expansion will bring the total to 17 varsity sports offered at Tennessee Wesleyan College. TWC will begin competing in the Appalachian Athletic Conference Track and Field events in the Spring of 2013.

Currently, the NAIA has 160 schools which participate in Track and Field. The Bulldogs will join 4 other schools in the Appalachian Athletic Conference who participate in Track and Field: Milligan, Union, Montreat, and Bryan.

Tennessee Wesleyan will be competing in selective indoor and outdoor track events which include: 4 x 100m, 100m, 200m, 400m, 800m, 1500m, 5000m, 10,000m, Women's 100m Hurdles, Men's 110 hurdles, 400 m Hurdles, and 1600m relay.
